On 20th May 2012, the Gia factory was almost completely destroyed during one of the worst earthquakes to hit north-east Italy in hundreds of years. The quake was the worst in the region since the 1300s, striking at about 4am, leaving parts of church facades lying in the streets, bell towers cracked, and roofs caved in. Emergency services reported four people killed during the tremors by buildings collapsing, residents running out into the streets, and many more hospitalised.
Destruction of the factory meant that Gia were unable to produce anything for several weeks. However, determined that the company should survive, they managed to restart manufacturing twenty four days later.
We at Foodmasters are extremely proud to be associated with such a company and very pleased to tell our customers that Gia are virtually back to full production for the UK.
We would like to thank everyone for their patience during what has been a very challenging and disruptive time.
